Station 1 - T-Bar Charts
The student is completing this T-Bat Chart.
- What
In this activity, students have more opportunities to view the definition
of a target word, see how it was used in the chapter, and type in personal associations. They are also
asked to use synonyms and must fill in all the blanks before going to the next word.
- How
Students may access their computer's word processing program,
if available, to use the thesaurus for synonyms. Students are encouraged to "borrow" any
synonym already included in the definition provided by the program.
-
Why
As with Word Maps, students internalize words better by making their own connections.
Borrowing ideas from the definition helps students who struggle for ideas of their own.
These student-written responses will also be printed as part of their Personal Dictionary and used to complete other activities in the program.
