Student Workbook Page
This is the student's workbook page, where he/she can see the scope and sequence of the activities
available for each word to be learned, and where personal scores can be viewed for those activities
that have mastery requirements.
The Pre-assessment allows students to identify what they already know.
The program individualizes the learning by requiring students to work only on words they do not know.
Learning Station 1 (Definitions) teaches students the meanings of the words, how they were
used in the context of the book, and expects students to type in their own connections with the
words. Once the required number of activities at this stations are completed, the student prints
out a dictionary with all this information. The dictionary is used while completing the remaining
required activities. Teachers decide how many activities per station are appropriate for an
individual student to learn and establish that requirement on their administation site.
The average student does well when 2 out of 3 activities at each station are required.
In this manner they have some choice with enough repetition and exposure to be successful.
Learning Stations 2-4 provide an assortment of context related activities that improve
understanding of the new word's meaning while providing practice in word-learning skills.
These are scored. The teacher decides the appropriate mastery level for the student and can
change it at any time. The default is set at 80%. The program allows students to repeat actvities
as much as needed to reach the required mastery level.
The Chapter Assessment identifies how well the new words have been learned and gives the
student another opportunity to receive credit for the words they already knew .
