Antonyms

Station 3 - Antonyms

Here the student as completed entering their answers and is preparing to check their work by pressing 'Compare'.
  1. What
Students are asked to identify two antonyms for each target word.
  2. How
Two separate lists let the student choose one word from each list that is the most likely choice for an antonym for each target word. No antonym word may be used twice. All target words must have 2 antonyms identified (and none used twice) before the program will produce a score.
  3. Why
Students will find their Personal Dictionary very useful for this activity. In order to keep from being confused, they must have a very clear sense of the meaning of the word. Sometimes they will also find the antonym comes right out of the definition of their target word with the word "not" placed in front. (Ex. - stern = strict; antonym = not strict). This activity solidifies student understanding of target words and takes careful thinking.
