Analogy

Station 3 - Analogies

  1. What
Students must recognize the relationship between the first two words then apply their understanding of that relationship to choose a partner word for completing the comparison.
  2. How
These analogies model the following four relationships between words: same meaning, opposite meaning, one is a subset of the other, one has a causal relationship with the other. Students click on their word choice to complete the relationship satisfactorily. All choices must be selected for the program to produce a score.
  3. Why
Analogies are well known for their value in challenging thinking and asking students to transfer understanding of one relationship to a new situation. They provide a teaching opportunity in thinking skills.
