| Current research recognizes three general requirements for in-depth teaching of new words: variety of approach, relevancy, and repetition. Applying these requirements to its Workbook Activities, Word Lab includes eleven of the most highly recommended word acquisition techniques. The techniques are structured so that the student is guided by mediated scaffolding that connects with student background knowledge and expands and refines that knowledge, creating new connections.
"Action research" has demonstrated that Word Lab compacts the learning time from 2 hours to ½ an hour and saves the teacher hours of paperwork and time required for feedback.
